Erythema means ‘reddening’ of the skin due to inflammation which is usually a result of accumulation of cells of the immune system and chemicals these cells release.
There can be many reasons for the occurrence of erythema: exposure to heat, insect bites, infections, allergy, non-ionizing radiation (sunlight, UV) and ionizing radiation (X-ray, nuclear radiation).
Exposure of the skin to high doses of ionizing radiation leads to accumulation of lymphocytes in the layers of the skin caused by the effects of cell death and eventually to the development of erythematous skin changes.
Erythema induced by ionizing radiation is infrequently seen in practice.
it can be caused by infection, massage, electrical treatment, acne medication, allergies, exercise, solar radiation (sunburn), cutaneous radiation syndrome, mercury toxicity, blister agents, niacin administration, or waxing and tweezing of the hairs—any of which can cause the capillaries to dilate, resulting in redness. Erythema is a common side effect of radiotherapy treatment due to patient exposure to ionizing radiation.
So you must go to a dermatologist for examination of the lesions and the other symptoms felt ,and the duration of the lesions between ,do you take any medicine ,or have you been in nature before 3 weeks of the lesions appeared ,do you have joint pain beside ,how the lesions look like are they rashes ,do they have development appearance ,what medical conditions you have other than the rash ,....all these questions will be asked by your dermatologist ti help diagnose beside the appearance ,some tests are done and concerning treatment some require no treatment other need anti histamine or stop of medicines causing the problem ,or antibiotics if lyme disease tick bite is the cause ,or steroids ,...
However ,since the causes are wide and the mentioned description may mean many things starting from food allergy , insect bite ,allergy to any new product or medicine or procedure ,stress ,or an infection ,YOU must visit a dermatologist to be evaluated some serious causes might require direct treatment and if postpones might be worsen .
