Colposeptine is a vaginal suppository usedas an aantiseptic agent in cases of vaginal atrophy (thinning of the vaginal tissue) that occurs in the setting of estrogen deficiency. It is composed of two molecules:
- Chlorquinaldol is an antiseptic agent that has a bacteriostatic effect (freezes bacteria rather than killing them) on many germs
- Promestriène haslocal eestrogenic effects on the mucous lining of the lower female genital tract , thereby restoring its thickness . It replenishes this area with superficial epithelial cells rich in glycogen which serves as a substrate for local bacterial flora. These flora help maintain an acidic medium (low pH) in the vagina which is necessary for a healthy and functional vagina.
