Peripheral axonopathy is a subtype of peripheral neuropathy, which is a disease of the peripheral nerves. It's usually a manifestation of an underlying disease, like diabetes, thyroid gland problem, rheumatologic disease, vitamin deficiency, blood vessel disease (vasculitis), autoimmune disorders (during which the immune system attacks the body's own tissues). It can also be idiopathic, that is to say, no identifiable cause exists.
What happens is that there's inflammation of the nerves (the axon is the long thread like structure that comes out of the nerve cell body) with subsequent atrophy (dying) of the affected axon.
The test you have done is a nerve conduction test, which checks how fast the nervous messages are spread from the nerve cell body to the axons and to other nerve cells.
Let's go through the medications you are receiving:
1- Dexa Tresortil is a combination of dexamethasone (a powerful steroid) and indomethacin (a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug). Both act to decrease the nerve inflammation. Dexamethasone has the additional feature of suppressing the immune system - so in case the nerve disease is due to an autoimmune process, the will treat the cause
2- Triptizol is an anti depressant and is used to treat severe pain
Inorder to better understand what is happening, I think you may require a nerve (+/- muscle biopsy) to look at the nerves and see the nature and extent of damage.
