What is the Corona Virus? What are the precautions that should be taken against it?
Jun 10, 2013
Coronaviruses are a group of important germs that cause disease in both humans and animals. In humans, they are notorious for causing community-acquired respiratory infections in the upper parts of the lungs, namely the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which caused 300 cases of a rapidly progressive respiratory illness back in March 2002 in China. These various are found everywhere and spread via via direct contact with secretions from an infected host (individual or animal) or via large aerosol droplets (infected droplets suspended in the air). They may also cause a form of diarrhea in humans.
There's no current recommended treatment except for supportive measures.
Preventive measures include handwashing and the careful disposal of materials infected with nasal secretions.

Coronaviruses are common viruses that most people get some time in their life. Human coronaviruses (CoV) usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses.Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface,The five coronaviruses that can infect people are:
alpha coronaviruses 229E and NL63
beta coronaviruses OC43 and HKU1
SARS-CoV, the coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome.
SYMPTOMS:Human coronaviruses usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses of short duration. Symptoms may include runny nose, cough, sore throat, and fever. These viruses can sometimes cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses, such as pneumonia. This is more common in people with cardiopulmonary disease or compromised immune systems, or the elderly.SARS-CoV can cause severe illness( high fever (temperature greater >38.0°C]). headache, an overall feeling of discomfort, and body aches. Some people also have mild respiratory symptoms at the outset. About 10 percent to 20 percent of patients have diarrhea. After 2 to 7 days, patients may develop a dry cough. Most patients develop pneumonia.
There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against human coronavirus infection. You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by:
-washing your hands often with soap and water,
-not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, and
-avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
There are no specific treatments, medications are given to relieve symptoms such as:
-taking pain and fever medications (Aspirin should not be given to children), and
-using a room humidifier or taking a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.
-drink plenty of liquids
-stay home and rest.
