Necrotizing fasciitis is often described as a condition involving "flesh-eating bacteria." It is commonly caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria.
It occurs occurs when this bacteria infect the superficial fascia, a layer of connective tissue below the skin.The bacteria can enter the body through cuts, insect bites or following surgery or injury.The infection can spread rapidly and destroy muscle, skin, and fat tissue.
