Bleeding of the gums when brushing is the most obvious and common sign of the inflammation of the gums (gingivitis).
In the vast majority of the times, it a very easy condition to cure. "Bleeding tendencies" are very uncommon, and they are rarely the reason why gums bleed.
The accumulation of plaque (bacteria) around the necks of the teeth close to the gums are the leading cause of inflammation, the treatment is to have a professional cleaning at the dentist followed by home maintenance.
you are not going to die! you just need to get a dental cleaning! :)
Good luck

gum bleeding during brushing your teeth is more common than you think and it is due to mild gingivitis.
reasons:
- brushing your teeth in an improper manner
- being too agressive on your teeth with the brush
- using a medium or hard tooth brush
- for women it could be proximity to the menstrual cycle.
- low immunity (flu or whatnot)
what you need to do is get a teeth cleaning at your dentist in order to eliminate tartar and have him/her demonstrate the proper way of brushing your teeth.
