Lately, after passing stools, I feel dizzy and I'm about to faint . Any idea about the cause?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
This phenomenon is known as vasovagal syncope, and it is one of the most common causes of fainting.
Vasovagal syncope occurs when your autonomic nervous system (responsible for functions such as regulating heart rate and breathing) exhibits an exaggerated reaction to certain triggers, such as the sight of a scary scene, an extremely emotional situation, or excess heat. What happens is that your heart rate drops abruptly, causing a sudden drop in your blood pressure. The result is decreased blood supply to your brain. So you feel dizzy or even undergo a short-lived loss of consciousness.

Vasovagal syncope is usually a benign condition that does not necessitate any medical intervention. Unless you have other symptoms or a family history of heart disease, you need not worry about it.

Common triggers for vasovagal syncope include:

Standing for long periods of time
Heat exposure
The sight of blood
Having blood drawn
Fear of getting physically harmed
Straining, such as to have a bowel movem
