I'm 19 years old. I average almost 6 to 7 hours per day of sleep, but i wake up tired and can't concentrate well in my 8 am class. any solution to this without the need to sleep more?
Sleep is food for the brain. During sleep, important body functions and brain activity occur. Skipping sleep can be harmful. studies showed that teens (age 12-19) need between 8.5 and 9.5 hours of sleep per day. Not able to do so you will Limit your ability to learn, listen, concentrate and solve problems , Lead to aggressive or inappropriate behavior such as yelling at your friends or being impatient with your teachers or family members. Try to get 2 more hours of sleep and see what will happen.
I agree with Dr. Siblini. I would also like to add that you should look into reasons leading to non-refreshing sleep: do you have problems breathing (something called obstructive sleep apnea) as a result of nose problems like deviated septum? If yes, you should see an ear-nose-throat doctor. Other causes could be overweight which also leads to obstructive sleep apnea, so if you are overweight you need to take care of this. Also check if your room is well aerated and the sun gets to it in case you have allergies.
One important thing is to regulate your sleeping habits:
1- Don't eat or study or watch TV in bed- use bed only for sleeping
2- Sleep everyday at the same hour
These should help significantly.

Annual Checkup
It is recommended that all individuals see a Family Doctor for a full medical examination annually. Adults should get their blood pressure checked (US Preventive Task Force), a flu vaccine (CDC) and more each year.
The American Dental Association recommends dental cleanings for adults at least twice annually. Some stains can only be removed by a professional cleaning.
It’s recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology that every adult between the ages of 18 and 80 does an eye examination at least once every two years.
It's recommended by the American Cancer Association that every adult between the age of 20 and 80 does an annual skin screening by a licensed dermatologist.
