Hey doctors, can you give me your opinions about hair loss, and the list of blood tests you ask for this kind of problem? Thank you..

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The most common entities associated with hair loss in otherwise healthy young females are telogen effluvium (telogen is the resting phase in a hair's life cycle - telogen effluvium is when lots of hair falls off in the shower, on the pillow, or on the hairbrush. Usually self limited and hair falling will decrease gradually), Alopecia, iron deficiency anemia (due to blood loss during the menstrual cycle), thyroid gland disease. To start with, we do a complete blood count, iron, ferritin (iron stores), thyroid function tests, and we take it from there based on the preliminary results of these tests.
