Do acidic juices like pineapple and orange help in reducing weight?
Apr 13, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
No, the acid found in fruits in and by itself does not promote weight loss. Another important issue to keep in mind is that fruit juice, even if natural (no added sugars) and fresh (rich in vitamins) is relatively high in calories (calories from carbs mainly), and to make a standard glass (around 250 mL) of orange juice for example you need 3-4 oranges. So one glass of fresh orange juice will provide you with 3-4 times more calories than when you eat a single orange, not to mention that when you drink fruit juice instead of eating the fruit as a whole, you will be missing out on the fibers.
This is not to say that you must never drink fresh fruit juice, but do not indulge too much and try to eat whole fruits more often than you drink juice.
