Why i feel tired after long naps??
Dec 19, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics

Power naps that last between 10-20 minutes can be very useful, relaxing and refreshing, and prevent unwanted events like driving while you're drowsy.

Long naps that exceed this amount of time are not recommended for the following reasons:
- Naps can lead to something called sleep inertia, defined as the feeling of grogginess and disorientation that can come with awakening from a deep sleep. This state usually does not last for more than a few minutes to a half-hour, but it can be distressing to those who must resume work or whatever activity immediately after waking from a napping period. Post-nap impairment and disorientation is more significant, and can last longer, in people who are sleep deprived or nap for longer periods.
Napping can also interfere with other sleeping periods. A long nap or a nap taken too late in the day may adversely affect the length and quality of nighttime sleep.
