Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The combination of a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a pseudoephedrine usually does the trick, as this combination works to reduce inflammation (NSAID) and congestion (pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages; dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion), but you need to be careful with drugs containing pseudoephedrine, because pseudoephedrine or other decongestants are contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of a certain drug. Check the label to see if a medicine contains pseudoephedrine or a decongestant. Also be careful to interaction between pseudoephedrine and other drugs: Do not use pseudoephedrine if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days, as a serious drug interaction could occur, leading to significant side effects. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to pseudoephedrine or to other decongestants, diet pills, stimulants, or ADHD medications.
