There's no ideal bathing time, as long as you don't do it in a rush. Bathing can be done about 2 hours before or after a feed to make sure that the baby's tummy has settled down from food (food already digested and not still being digested) thus avoiding an upset tummy. Other measures to prevent tummy upsets include making sure that the bathing is done in a warm place. Prepare all the stuff you need 1st, and only when you've become ready, undress your baby and wrap him or her in a towel. Lay your baby on the back. Wet the washcloth, wring out excess water and wipe your baby's face (no need for soap).
When you clean your baby's body, use a mild moisturizing soap-free product. Be diligent around creases under the arms, behind the ears, around the neck and in the diaper area. Also wash between your baby's fingers and toes. To keep your baby warm, expose only the parts you're washing. Avoid getting water and soap into the eyes (they cause irritation), nose, and ears (water can be stuck in the ear and lead to infection). Once you've finished, dry softly by dabbing.
Note that babies don't need to be bathed daily. Every other day is best (otherwise their skin will dry up).
