What's the exact role or prostate and is it okay to remove it because it's getting big? What are the side effects?
Nov 17, 2016

Dr. Jihad Irani Family Medicine
I am assuming you are asking this question for someone who is older than 27. The prostate has many roles, including secreting an important part of the semen (ejaculate during sexual intercourse). It is common that the size gets bigger in older men, and that can affect urinating. One of the treatment is surgical, and has side effects that are to be discussed with the surgeon (urologist), including sexual problems. It all depends on the type of surgery to be done.
