What is siofor medecine used for ?
Sep 2, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Siofor is metformin, a medication taken by mouth to help controlbblood sugar in individuals who have type 2 diabetes. It acts by decreasing the production of glucose (the form of sugar the body can absorb and use) by the liver, decreasing glucose absorption from the intestines, and increasing sensitivity to insulin. Another use of metformin is in cases of polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS) where there's also insulin resistance (the cells don't respond well to insulin which results in higher than usual levels of blood sugar).
