What is detox diet
Jan 2, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics

Detox diets are claimed to be capable of clearing the body from toxins. Various detox diets adopt different styles, but the mainstay  is a period of fasting followed by a strict diet of raw vegetables, fruit and fruit juices, and water. Some detox diets also recommend the use of herbs and other supplements, in addition to colon cleansing  with enemas, to empty the intestines. These diets are notorious for being calorie-poor, which affects daily function, leaving the person following them feeling fatigued and "out of energy". Not to mention that the human body does not need such extreme measures to help it get rid of toxins - all you need to do is to consistently follow a healthy diet (avoiding processed and canned foods, lowering salt and sugar intake, avoiding trans fats, cutting down on caffeine, alcohol and soda, and staying away from tobacco, plus of course drinking plenty of water) and exercise regularly to keep your body healthy.
