in lay terms , knee cap pain , or femoro patellar syndrome , is pain in the front aspect of the knee elicited mainly upon going up and down the stairs and the prolonged flexed position ! ( sitting ! ) it is usually due to increased pressure in your femoro patellar joint , ( between your knee cap and thigh bone ) , causes are multiple , but most likely the knee cap is not well centered in the underlying groove leading to more shear forces on one of the knee cap sides . treatment is tailored according to the cause and the severity of symptoms
