Anal cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the anal canal and it is uncommon , The anal canal is a short tube at the end of your rectum through which stool leaves your body.It is closely related to a sexually transmitted infection called human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is thought to be the most common cause of anal cancers.
Anal cancer can cause signs and symptoms such as rectal bleeding(Bleeding from the anus or rectum) and anal pain(Pain in the area of the anus),a mass growth in the anal canal, anal itching, stool incontinence may occur
>>Risk factors that raise the risk of developing anal cancer are :
female gender, infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), lifetime number of sexual partners, genital warts, cigarette smoking, receptive anal intercourse, and infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),weight loss ,..
There are number of conditions that can present with the same symptoms you describe other than anal cancer SUCH AS :
>A continuous aching pain in the anus with leg pain in your case might be due to a pressure when a part of the spine presses on a nerve).
>A knife-like pain when you have your bowels open, and which may last for 10–15 minutes afterwards, is probably caused by an anal fissure. Some people describe it as like ‘passing glass’. In addition to the pain, you may notice some bright red blood on the toilet paper.
>A similar knife-like pain can be caused by herpes simplex virus.
>A nagging, aching discomfort made worse by defecation could be due to hemmorroids .
>A throbbing pain, worsening over a few days, and bad enough to disturb your sleep, is likely to be caused by an abscess. You may be able to feel a tender swelling in the skin beside the anus, or the abscess may be hidden inside
>Anal warts: human papillomavirus (HPV) causes anal warts(the same virus that risks anal cancer), which begin as soft, fleshy growths around the anus. These warts can extend to affect the lower part of the rectum. You may have anal itching, varying degrees of pain, and, with time, bleeding and discharge.
>Proctitis which is inflammation inflammation of your anus (the opening) and lining of your rectum (lower part of the intestine leading to the anus). Symptoms can vary greatly. You may at first have only minor problems
>An occasional, severe, cramp-like pain deep in the anal canal, lasting about half an hour, is probably a condition called proctalgia fugax(proctalgia fugax is a condition where some of the pelvic floor muscles contract by themselves.)
So if you feel worried and the pain as described by any of the conditions i have mentioned then check with a colo- rectal surgeon or gastroenterologist to find the exact cause and treat it ,don't worry it could be a simple cause especially in the absence of serious symptoms and risk factors.
