Uterine prolapse..what is the best treatment other than surgery for uterine prolapse?
Aug 20, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Pelvic exercises (Kegel exercises) and pessaries are the current mainstays of nonsurgical management of patients with uterine prolapse.
Kegel exercises performed routinely are capable of improving pelvic floor muscle tone, but there's no data to indicate that this improvement in pelvic floor muscle tone will lead to regression of uterine prolapse.
Vaginal support devices are excellent options for the conservative treatment of patients with uterine prolapse. Pessary use is usually safe and is only contraindicated in the case of acute pelvic inflammatory disease and pain after insertion. Recurrent vaginitis (vaginal inflammation) is a relative contraindication and may necessitate removal of the pessary. An important supportive therapy to be used along with the pessary is application of topical estrogen to the vagina.
