yes ,if the cause is eliminated you will be treated and there will be no recurrence but if the cause is still present then it might recur .
Depending upon the type of TMJ disorder you are having, the treatment is recommended. Treatment includes
jaw rest
application of heat and ice to relieve pain,
taking anti-inflammatory medication
physiotherapy for the muscles of face which includes stretching or relaxing the muscles.
life style changes , if it is quite stressful and is aggravating the condition. You can learn stress reducing techniques.
food habits changes like avoid eating chewing gum, hard to chew food
avoid opening your mouth too wide (wide yawning or loud singing).
The basic aim of all the treatment is to give maximum rest to the joint ,that is the role of all treatments held in this pain .
the mechanism of the pain is spasm the treatments will be relieving stress and maximum rest of the joint
So if one follows the doctor`s recommendation then in most of the cases surgery can be avoided and the TMJ joint problem can be treated

Typically, you should not wear your splint for longer six months. In fact, overuse can lead to jaw and bite disfigurement. You may wear your splint all the time, or you may only wear it at night. Your particular treatment regimen (mode and duration of treatment) will depend on the alignment of your jaw and the severity of your symptoms.
It is essential to follow all post-treatment instructions: Typically TMJ treatment involves a lengthy regimen, so you should be committed and compliant to it. As long as prescribed by your dentist, you should keep wearing your gouttiere. Your dentist may also ask you to do regular jaw exercises.
Also care to avoid extremely hard or chewy foods. Stop chewing gum, as this is can irritate the already overused jaw muscles.
