Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Have you been having chronic recurrent tonsillitis (more than 6 times per year ever since you can remember)? Have you ever suffered from serious consequences of tonsillitis, specifically, rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease? Any chronic blockage of your airways (because of enlarged tonsils) causing snoring?
Streptococcus and Staphylococcus may exist in what we call the carrier state, that is, they inhabit your airways, including the nasal cavity and also probably your sinuses, and cause frequent recurrent infections. You should discuss the indications for tonsillectomy with your treating physician.
