FIRST to do is to speak to the dentist about your fears before you come in. If he seems dismissive, try another dentist .
you can try these steps :
>Go to that first visit with someone you trust, such as a close relative who has no fear of dentists
>Seek distraction while in the dentist's chair.watch tv , listen to your own music on headphones, anything that may take your attention to other place
>Try relaxation techniques ,take a big breath, hold it, and let it out very slowly, this will slow your heartbeat and relax your muscles. Another technique is progressive muscle relaxation, which involves tensing and relaxing different muscle groups in turn.
>you can try the stress ball (the small elastic rubber ball used for relieving stress and tension),you can use it while the dentist is working with your teeth ,it may diffuse your mind and lose the concentration of the dentist process
>you can ask your dentist and explain your fears and you could ask him for sedatives ,lacal anesthetic, nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas),sedative oral ,or IV sedatives ,you can check what is suitable with your dentist
>you can ask the doctor to illustrate what he is doing and giving rest breaks ,stopping whenever you are not fine ,.....anything you want
>look to the positive side rather than your fears
>If you can't bring yourself to go to any dentist, you might want to try seeing a psychologist
