Shall ice packs be used on the face after rhinoplasty? If yes for how many days?
Nov 25, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Some surgeons do not recommend using cold compresses, so check with your surgeon first. However, swelling and pressure can be relieved by icing and many surgeons strongly recommend this. If your doctor is OK with placing cold packs, you need to know that cold packs are effective in the first 48 hours after surgery to reduce post-operative swelling. Use them 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, to prevent damage to the skin. After 48 hours, you may still apply cold packs for
comfort, but the therapeutic value will be diminished.
