How efficient is acupuncture?
May 12, 2014

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Acupuncture has been studied as a treatment for migraine headache. While not all studies have shown that it helps, researchers agree that acupuncture appears safe and that it may work for some people.
Knowing the mechanism of acupuncture gives a clue that it may help in migraine:
Some of the mechanisms of acupuncture, medically are that it :
-promotes blood flow
-stimulates the body’s built-in healing mechanisms
-releases natural painkillers. Inserting a needle sends a signal through the nervous system to the brain, where chemicals such as endorphins, norepinephrine and enkephalin are released.
- reduces both the intensity and perception of chronic pain
-relaxes shortened muscles
- reduces stress.
