Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Survival rates are often referred to as a standard way of
discussing a person's prognosis (outlook). The 5-year observed survival rate
refers to the percentage of patients who live for a minimum of 5 years after their cancer is
diagnosed. It remains very likely that many people live much longer than 5
years, and fortunately as well, many are cured.
Yes of course these treatments should be able to reduce the tumor.
Grade 2 NETs are well-differentiated tumors, meaning that the cells in these tumors are very much like the normal non-tumor cells, so these kinds of tumors are not classified as malignant, bur rather as benign. This fact obviates the need for chemotherapy, which is reserved for more severe cases. And remember that management strategies depend on location of the primary neoplasm, patterns of metastatic spread (if any do actually exist), and hormonal activity of the tumor.
