Pinched a nerve while doing an overhead squat. A week later I still feel light tingling in thumb and slight external numbness in arm below the elbow. Is it serious or needs some time to fully recover?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
This is most likely a minor nerve injury, as symptoms of paresthesias (numbness and tingling) indicate that.
Nerve injury should be considered when pain, weakness, or paresthesias are reported in the absence of a known bone, soft tissue, or vascular injury.
The location of symptoms, the type of symptom (i.e., paresthesias, pain, weakness), and any relation between a symptom and specific activity should be determined on physical examination.

The are three categories of nerve injuries. Depending on the injury, the period of time till full recovery, and whether there will be full or incomplete recovery, are determined. But in general and in your case in should not last more than a month or so.

Mechanisms of nerve injury include direct pressure, repetitive microtrauma, and stretch- or compression-induced decrease in blood supply to the affected area. The degree of injury is related to the severity and extent (time) of compression.

I advise you to have a doctor examine your arm. Meanwhile try not to overwork it while exercising.
