My mother is 42 years old, she got her period on Dec 3 and she got it again on Dec 13 only 10 days after finishing what could be the cause knowing that she gave birth 3 years ago. Is it menopause?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
This alteration in the timing of the menstrual period need not be a sign of early menopause, or an early sign of menopause for that matter. It could be that she got her period too early because of stress (physical, emotional, or both), or this could be a sign of intermenstrual bleeding (medical term: metrorrhagia, which is s uterine bleeding at irregular intervals, particularly between the expected menstrual periods), which can be due to a number of causes, like uterine fibroids (benign tissue growths in the uterus). In order to delineate the exact cause, a full obstetric and gynecologic history (including family history of early menopause and other gynecological disorders), a pelvic exam +/- pelvic ultrasound, are necessary.
