Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Infants are expected to have conjunctivitis, but since your daughter has had several episodes of conjunctivitis over a short period of time, simply applying antibiotic drops is not the way to go. She should be examined to look into possible causes of recurrent conjunctivitis: a swab of the eye discharge must be sent for culture to identify the bacteria if any (because it could be viral). It could be chemical conjunctivitis (a reaction to a substance), or due to trauma (she injures her eyes), or blockage of the tear passage (lacrimal duct obstruction). The right management will be decided based on the findings on her exam.
