My daughter is almost 3 years old (2 years and 11 months). Her weight and height are 13.6 Kg and 87 cm respectively. Does she look less then the minimum? If it is the case how we have to act?Apr 18, 2013

Your daughter's weight is around the 50th percentile for her age and gender (normal) and her height is at around the 5th percentile for her age and gender. Her BMI falls at around the 90th percentile. At this stage, it is important to check her growth pattern (by her pediatrician) since birth to check if it is stable or that there have been a significant drop (what we call crossing percentiles of growth). The former signifies that this is either familial or constitutional, both of which require no more than observation, but the latter requires investigation, to rule out thyroid problem, gut problems (like gluten sensitivity), nutrition problems, and others. It is essential that you measure your height and that of your husband; these are needed in the evaluation (to calculate the so called mid-parental height).
