Is there an age limit for breastfeeding? My son is almost 18 months old and I still breast feed him.

Dr. Dania Khalaf Pediatrics
AAP(academy of pediatrics ) recommend breastfeeding until 1 year and WHO recommend it until 2 years old but in the same time your son must eat 3-4 meals /day + breastfeeding because breastfeeding alone is no more enough for babies after 6 months of age. Personally ,I recommend stop breastfeeding at 18-20 months because at this age the baby took more than enough from the benefits of breastfeeding and after this age the baby will be too much attached to his mother so it will be more and more difficult to stop breastfeeding .

Dr. Dina Helou Pediatrics
AAP (american academy of pediatrics) recommends breasfeeding until the age of 1 year, and after as mutually desired by mother and child.
But in practice, after the age of one, a child has a diversified diet, he has teeth, is very active and starts to be less dependant on his mother.
So between 12 and 18 months is a good period to decide to stop breastfeeding and put your child on a growing up milk formula.
