Probably if there is no other symptoms felt and everything is well with you ,and this little stabbing pains lasts only for seconds ,then there is no serious cause ,it is probably a muscle twitch (muscle spasm) the same twitch that sometimes a person feel in his eye for seconds .
it is a repetitive small twitching in the muscle that lasts directly with no other symptom ,it comes with no cause ,but can be due to stress and anxiety or heridity.
another cause since you are obese and you feel stabbing mild pain in the left sternal region ,it might be due to heartburn due to a GERD disease or ulcer (where the stomach acidity due to the increased pressure in the stomach due to obesity goes up through the esophagus and cause heartburn .
another cause might be esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus )that happen for the same reason of heartburn where the acid of stomach cause an ulcer and inflammation of the epiglottis that shows as a pain in that area .
-it is unlikely that this pain is due to a serious disease because if it is from heart or pancreas or lings it may show with other related symptoms and it would be a sharp severe pain.
if the pain lasts longer or happen more or disturbing check with a doctor for physical examination and necessary tests .you can also check if the cause is gastric or GERD condition to take the necessary treatments especially if you feel these pains after a meal or when sleeping or feel heartburn symptoms
