Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Yes of course that must be a part of your treatment plan because this extra weight affect the healing process and put more pressure on your healing leg.

check this with your physical therapist ,aim to a based weight with reference to your height to have a BMI body mass index in the normal range what is your height ?

after putting the weight loss goal you must put the plan ,,however exercising will be limited in your case depending on your physical therapist guidelines and indications depending on your case but there are certain tips you can do .

>Record what you eat and the amount of food you eat and then try to eat the other day 3/4 of what you had to eat everyday ,for week then after a week you can eat half the amount ,this is a simple way where decreasing your caloric intake will for sure decrease your weight and help in rehabiliting your leg more .

>Limiting salt and starches may also mean losing more weight at first -- but that's mostly fluids, not fat.

>For rapid weight loss, focus on fruits, veggies, egg whites, soy products, breasts, fish, shellfish, nonfat dairy foods, and 95% lean meat.
>Eat vegetables to help you feel full.
>Drink plenty of water.
>Get tempting foods out of your home.
->Stay busy , you don't want to eat just because you're bored.
>Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table. No grazing in front of the 'fridge.
>Don't skip meals.
>Keeping a food journal -- writing down everything you eat -- can also help you stay on track..

NOTE: if you have a medical condition that is related to your weight gain then treating the cause will make you lose weight better while if losing weight without tReating the condition you will gain again the weight you lost.
