In order to coin the cause of bleeding, we need to 1st make sure that the patient in question does not have a decreased platelet count (platelets are the components of the blood that are responsible for the primary response to bleeding and wound healing; a low platelet count can manifest in minor bleeds and in bruises over the skin, sometimes in the oral cavity) because chemotherapy can induce a drop in cell counts, including platelets. Also, the ability of the blood to coagulate should be assessed via two tests (PT and INR, PTT).And since the patient is on Innohep, a form of heparin (a molecule that makes blood more fluid), there are certain blood tests that are used as parameters to monitor how well the patient is responding to Innohep.
