I have been having diarrhea for 4 days, will the effectiveness of Yasmin be effected? Or am I still protected against pregnancy? Can I take flagyl or eurceupheril? or do they effect Yasmin?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If you have been having ongoing diarrhea for four days now, you need to do a stool analysis and culture to isolate the causative germ. Flagyl is sued to treat parasitic diarrhea like amoeba, while Ercefuryl targets bacteria. In order to decide which is the right treatment, stool test is necessary. Also keep well hydrated, follow an anti-diarrheal diet (laban with some salt, boiled potatoes, steamed rice, bananas which are rich in potassium and you may be losing a lot of it in the diarrheal stools) and do not eat outside.
If the diarrhea is mild (4 times per day, not too watery) should not affect oral contraceptive absorption, BUT if it's more severe, there is the possibility of poor OCP absorption.
