How does xenical work and does it cause liver failure
Sep 13, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Xenical (orlistat) blocks the activity of enzymes secreted by the stomach and pancreas that break down triglycerides (fats). As such, triglycerides will not be absorbed into the bloodstream but will be thrown out in the stools.
There are reported cases of Xenical-associated liver failure, though the frequency of such cases is not known.
