Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
MPV is mean platelet volume, it is an estimation of the size of the platelets (which are small structures that resemble cells and function in blood clotting and preventing bleeding) as measured by a machine. A increased MPV means a higher than usual platelet size, and this usually indicates that the newly formed platelets are leaving the bone marrow (where they are produced) too early to the peripheral circulation, and this usually occurs if platelets are being actively destroyed. The value of 11.3 fl is within the normal range so you have nothing to worry about.
