Eating only apples for couple days is it healthy ?
Sep 11, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Apples are rich in fibers, known for their ability to help in weight control as they induce quick satiety: in the stomach, they absorb water and increase in volume, so you feel full. Moreover, the human body (luckily) lacks the enzymes that break down fiber, so whatever fiber you eat, you thrown out eventually. Fibers also slow down the digestion of food, thus providing a slow and steady source of glucose without the need for blood sugar rush and the cravings that follow.
One apple with skin on provides an average of 4.4 grams of fiber, about one-fifth of the daily need.
The type of fiber found in apples is pectin. In the stomach, pectin can delay stomach emptying, thus prolonging the sensation of satiety, which indirectly helps in weight control.
An apple-only diet for a couple of days should be OK, but not to go beyond 2-3 days, as you need your sources of proteins and fats (the good fats that is), because the source of calories from apples is from carbohydrates, and too much of them is not healthy, as this fact has been reinforced recently by many clinical research studies: sugars are the culprits incriminated in the rise of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
