During exercising I sometimes unintentionally and uncontrollably release gases. Is it normal? How can it be avoided?

It is kind of normal since with physical activity, the muscles contract and relax. At the level of the abdomen, this serial muscle contraction-relaxation helps the intestinal mobility, also known as the peristaltic movement. So naturally, if there is gas trapped in the colon, it will be expelled more easily.
How to prevent this? You will have to take notice of the food items that increase flatulence (production of gas) and eliminate/minimize them from/in your diet. Another good dietary practice is eating small frequent meals instead of three large main meals as this imposes less strain on the digestive system. Also consider taking oral probiotics, which are natural supplements that help maintain a healthy level of the intestinal flora (the good bacteria that inhabit the intestines and are essential for food breakdown, digestion and absorption).
