Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
How is your daughter otherwise? Is she active, playful, smiling, sleeping well, passing good amounts of urine and pooping regularly? Any fever, sleepiness, signs of illness like sneezing, runny nose or a cough? If no, then you should have nothing to worry about.
Have you shifted to a new milk formula, or are you still using the same one you have used before? If the 1st option is correct, then your daughter may simply be having a hard time accepting the new milk formula taste, or maybe she finds it not so palatable.
Other possibilities is that she may be slightly constipated and thus refusing to eat as much as she usually does; or you may check on her gingiva (gums), maybe she is starting to teethe, though most babies start to teethe a bit later than 5 months of age.
Make sure she does not have a stuffed nose by cleansing her nose with nasal saline drops and suctioning with the bulb 30 min before meals, because babies are obligate nose breathers, and if their nose is stuffy they cannot eat well since they cannot breathe properly.
If the decreased feeding persists and you cannot identify a reason, you will have to have your baby checked by her pediatrician.
