I can deduce from what you said that your lack of social life comes from the following: 1. stress and fatigue due to the fact that engineering requires lot of effort and time. So when you have some time you prefer to rest and play at home. I know many engineering students who do the same. 2. your type of shy personality that makes it harder for you to socialize. I would suggest learning how to manage your time , between resting at home and socializing. Try to make an effort at gaining few friends and sharing activities with them , even simple ones that do not require lot of time like eating together , taking small breaks while studying , joining a sport or a community volunteer group at university or tournaments in video games ,studying sometimes at university where your colleagues study. These would be opportunities for you to have easier social interaction.
