Does locacid cause more pimples to emerge where it is being used?
Jul 27, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The main (active) ingredient in Locacid is tretinoin, a vitamin A/retinol derivative. It works by targeting damaged cells, destroying them while simultaneously enhancing skin cell turnover and collagen production. This results in skin dryness and peeling off, with new skin coming out.
Locacid should only be applied to clean, dry skin. If you are going to get sun exposure, you must apply a layer of sunscreenon o top of the cream layer, but better to avoid sunlight all in all.
Tretinoin gel may cause the following adverse effects: high sensitization of the skin to sunlight, wind, and cold temperatures, so skin will chap and burn, in addition to stinging or burning sensation, peeling of the skin, redness, and initially significant acne breakouts. If these symptoms do not improve within one to two weeks, you may have to decrease the use frequency (so for example, use every other day instead of daily), or consult your dermatologist to switch to another medication.
