Does high risk HPV cause genital warts? Or is it only the low risk ones? And do uncircumsized men have higher risks of infection ?
Jul 31, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
There are around 40 well known HPV (human papilloma virus) types; their stratification as high vs. low risk is based upon their role in anal and genital cancer, not in their infections potential (that is, the ability to cause warts). Studies over the past decade have found a negative correlation between male circumcision and risk for HPV infection in both males and females, that is to say, circumcised men have a lower risk of acquiring the HPV infection and consequently a lower risk of transmitting it to their female partners.
