At your age this is not necessarily true since your Basal Metabolic Rate is high and your regular body functions require a lot of energy from digested calories. However getting too much sleep is similar to getting too little sleep in that both lead to weight gain by altering the levels of some hormones such as Leptin (responsible for the sensation of fullness) and Ghrelin (responsible for the sensation of hunger).
