Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
If you always awaken with a runny nose, this is probably the result of allergy. If you have a sinus infection also , this too will most likely lead to a runny nose.

A condition called vasomotor rhinitis, results in postnasal drip(accomulation of mucus at the end of your throat), a runny nose, sneezing and nasal congestion. Your nose will drip in the morning when you get up. A change in the weather can prompt vasomotor rhinitis. In addition, this condition can be brought on by fatigue, hormonal changes and stress.
note that some medications like high blood pressure and heart disease medications can cause a runny nose.
there is also a similar condition allergic rhinitis with same symptoms.
usually no cure for rhinitis but treatment in avoiding the allergen you can do an allergy test to figure what allergens are affecting you pollens from trees, grasses, and weeds cause allergic rhinitis. Many people have allergies to dust mites Click here to see more information., animal dander Click here to see more information., cockroaches, and mold as well. Things in the workplace, such as cereal grain, wood dust, chemicals, or lab animals, can also cause allergic rhinitis.
If you are allergic to pollens, you may have symptoms only at certain times of the year. If you are allergic to dust mites and indoor allergens, you may have symptoms all the time.

If a runny nose is a persistent problem or you, drink lots of liquids, as this will replace the fluids that you are losing through your nose. Put a humidifier in your bedroom so that there is moisture in the air. A dry room exacerbates your problem. You need to clean the humidifier on a daily basis
the best also it to avoid triggers ,it can be your matress ,your pillow ,you need to avoid that which is causing your nose to run.get a lint-free bedspread and sleep on pillows that are synthetic instead of feather pillows. Regularly dust your bedroom and put plastic covers over your box-spring and mattress
rinse out their nasal passages with saline sprays it may decrease the symptoms.

If your allergies bother you a lot and you cannot avoid the things you are allergic to, you and your doctor can decide if you should get allergy shots ( immunotherapy ) to help control your symptoms. For allergy shots to work, you need to know what you are allergic to.
