Daughter has had red cheeks peditrician says it could be fifths disease is it normal for her to develop allergy like symptoms after rash has already been going on
Jan 29, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
What do you mean by allergy-like symptoms? Anything other than the facial rash? Fifth disease is a viral illness caused by the virus known as Parvovirus B19, the hallmark of which is a slapped-cheek appearance on both side, along with flu-like symptoms like fever, headache and a runny nose. Some people may get a second rash a few days later on the areas of the chest, back, buttocks, or arms and legs. The rash may be itchy, especially on the soles of the feet. The rash can vary in intensity and may come and go for several weeks. It usually goes away in 7 to 10 days, but it can last several weeks. As the rash starts to go away, it may look lacy.
