Can my fingers pain be related with iron deficiency?
Oct 7, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Iron-deficiency anemia by itself does not produce pain in the bone or joints. Unless the iron deficiency has resulted from a chronic illness, such as a rheumatologic disease, or a gastrointestinal condition, there is no reason why iron deficiency should explain finger/joint pain. The type of anemia known to induce bone pain is sickle cell disease (فقر الدم المنجلي), a hereditary condition that causes the red blood cells to assume a crescent shape and thus unable to carry enough oxygen; sickle crisis, in which small blood vessels get occluded by these malformed red blood cells, are associated with attacks of severe pain in the affected bones or organs.
