Can I have diet products (diet pepsi, splenda sugar, diet jello, diet dairy products) while breasfeeding? In addition, what foods shouldn't I consume?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Although the scientific evidence does not support the assumption that the mother's diet may somewhat influence the breast milk composition and thus affect the baby, we usually have a few recommendations pertaining to what the mother should avoid in her diet, to lessen the chances of the baby having flatulence or colics.
Regarding diet products, you are allowed to consume those while breast feeding, but careful with them as they all contain aspartame or mannitol, which can cause flatulence (excessive gas) and this could indirectly affect your baby. So consume them moderately especially the carbonated beverages, which not only cause bloating, but also impede the uptake of essential nutrients from the gut into the bloodstream.
Food items to avoid include cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, fava beans, chickpeas, or anything that you notice causing you indigestion or bloating.
