Can a snake bite or scorpion bite be deadly?
Jun 15, 2013

Dr. Karim Farah Pulmonology
It depends on the type of snake and the location of the bite. Most snakes in Lebanon are not deadly so that's why it's important to inform your physician about the color, shape and size of the snake.

The injury can vary from local irritation and redness which requires just antibiotics and antihistamine to more severe symptoms such as anaphylaxis and respiratory failure. Every patient who gets a snake bite should be monitored for at least 6 hours with blood test done. If the symptoms progress and worsen, then the antivenom should be administered. If not, then its such local therapy.

If you get bitten in the wood by a snake, the most important thing to do is NOT to suck the poison out, no put a tight band to cut the blood flow just go to the hospital as soon as possible.
