Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Yes it's possible especially if there's family history of diabetes at a relatively young age, and here I'm referring to type 1 diabetes (occurs because of immune system malfunction where the immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin) ; type 2 diabetes (insulin - independent) results from insulin resistance along with relative insulin deficiency) occurring more and more frequently in adolescents due to the obesity epidemic.
If you're concerned you could do fasting blood sugar, if the result is not normal you'll have to run other tests (HbA1C or blood sugar load, and C-peptide to check the status of insulin production in the body).
Regarding cholesterol you could have a lipid profile done (includes all lipid types). A 25 (OH) Vit D is the test to check if you have Vit D deficiency (the majority of the Lebanese population are deficient in Vit D so don't worry if your levels return low).
Please note that you need to see a pediatrician before you do those tests so that he/she takes good history and examines you properly then follow up on blood test results.
