Are the common creams and gels in pharmacies for treating acne actually efficient ? or would you suggest a certain product or pills that help?
Dec 30, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The pillars of acne treatment are topical applications including benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, erythromycin and isotretinoin and these are available as over-the-counter products, and oral doxycycline and retinoic acid (these require a doctor's prescription). A specific combination of those, starting with topical treatment and advanced to oral treatment, is attempted. The particular case of the patient (kind of acne, extent of skin involvement etc.) and response to treatment dictates the subsequent management plan. For you to get the optimal benefit, you are advised to consult a dermatologist.
